    Lineup confirmed for FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2024 in Mexico

    LEON (Mexico) - The path to the trophy for the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2024 has been determined as the groups for the seventh edition of the event were confirmed in Thursday’s draw.

    LEON (Mexico) - The path to the trophy for the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2024 has been determined as the groups for the seventh edition of the event were confirmed in Thursday’s draw.

    The 16 teams were divided into four groups of four teams each.

    The results of the draw are as follows:

    Group A: Japan, Spain, Argentina, Finland
    Group B: Italy, Mexico, Mali, New Zealand
    Group C: Puerto Rico, Australia, USA, Croatia
    Group D: Chinese Taipei, Egypt, Canada, France

    All 16 teams participating in the event will advance to the competition's Final Phase with a single-elimination format in place from the Round of 16 onwards.

    The teams from Group A will face teams from Group B, based on standings within these groups (1st vs 4th - 2nd vs 3rd) and teams from Group C will face teams from Group D.

    The defending champions USA will be shooting for their sixth U17 Women's Basketball World Cup crown in the seventh tournament. The Americans’ only loss in the history of the event came to eventual champions Australia in the 2016 Semi-Finals, where USA finished third.

    The draw was performed by Mexico's National Team legend Olivia Carrillo with the help of Mexican National Team player Viridiana Mazzocco. Carol Callan, FIBA Central Board member, Modesto Robledo, Mexican National Federation President and Christian Enriquez, General Director Sports Commission of the State of Guanajuato, attended the event.

    The 2024 edition of the tournament will take place from July 13-21 in Irapuato and Leon, Mexico.
