USA use U17 World Cup break to visit Santa Fe orphanage

SANTA FE (FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2018) - The United States teams used the off day at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup to visit an orphanage in Santa Fe, Argentina.

Don Showalter and his team took advantage of the break between the Round of 16 and Quarter-Finals to spend some time with a group of kids from the orphanage in the co-host city.

"When you go to a foreign country, you want your players to experience different things. Going to an orphanage and giving back a little bit makes a big difference," Showalter said.  "You are just trying to teach some life lessons to our players. The world doesn't revolve around them or basketball. For them to go and put a smile on some faces was really important.”

The visit included playing basketball and football, playing some music on drums and just spending time with the orphans. They also shared a cake as it was the anniversary of the opening of the orphanage.

“It was great," USA big man Isaiah Stewart said.  "You definitely appreciate the way you live back home, and it makes you grateful and thankful for everything. I got a little bit emotional, but I’m definitely happy I could help make some kids' day today."
