Hosts of remaining FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2021 Qualifiers tournaments confirmed for February 2021 window

MUNICH (Germany) - The February 2021 window games of the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2021 Qualifiers will be played in seven locations, with two of the designated hosts confirmed to host multiple groups.

Following an additional round of consultations with the respective National Federations, a decision to organize the remaining tournaments in previously approved locations was taken.

With the authorization of the FIBA Europe Board, the FIBA Regional Office Europe additionally confirmed Istanbul (Turkey) and Riga (Latvia) as hosts for Groups D and F, respectively.

The hosts for seven of the nine protected environment tournaments were confirmed by the Board last week.

The approved locations are as follows:

Health and travel guarantees and compliance with FIBA health protocols, including testing and controlled entry into a secure environment, were the most important criteria in selecting the hosts.

In addition to approving the remaining hosts, FIBA Regional Office Europe also announced the game schedule for the upcoming window, as well as updates on affected games from the November 2020 window.

The decisions made by the Single Judge of FIBA Europe on the affected games are as follows:

  • The national team of Albania forfeits the games against Turkey and against Lithuania and is subsequently disqualified from the remainder of the competition. All the results of the games played Albania are void and will be cancelled. Group E will be played with three teams only in the February 2021 window.
  • The game Belarus vs Poland will be rescheduled for the February 2021 window and shall be played before the games regularly scheduled in this window.

As a result of the disqualification of Albania, the national teams of Serbia and Sweden have secured their berths at the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2021 Final Round.

FIBA will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in Europe on a daily basis  and communicate further updates regarding FIBA Competitions when necessary.
