Quarter-Finals Top Performers: Meesseman, Jones, Vadeeva, Jovanovic, Mestdagh
STRASBOURG / VALENCIA (France/Spain) - There were more spectacular individual performances lighting it up during an exciting day of Quarter-Finals action in Strasbourg and Valencia.
Emma Meesseman showed out with a spectacular display for Belgium as they outlasted Russia 85-83 in a super advert for the women's game. She claimed the highest score of the tournament to date with 33 points and also the highest performance efficiency score of 40 after adding 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
While Meesseman was a colossus, Belgium still needed those around her to contribute to take victory and it was Kim Mestdagh who duly stepped up. She torched Russia with some excellent shooting, 67 percent from the field for her 19 points.
The loss was tough on Maria Vadeeva, with the Russia star having to walk off the court without a win, despite an incredible individual performance. She claimed 30 points from 76 percent shooting and also produced 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
Jonquel Jones posted another staggering double-double for Bosnia and Herzegovina as she set a new game high record for rebounds in an 80-67 defeat to France. The center recorded a phenomenal 29 points and 24 rebounds.
Finally, there was an epic in Valencia as Serbia pulled off a famous 71-64 triumph in overtime against defending champions Spain. Nevena Jovanovic was pivotal to the victory as the guard claimed a classy double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.
