Anderson awarded TISSOT MVP honor for Belgrade Group A

BELGRADE (Serbia) - It was a double celebration for Yvonne Anderson at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament as she helped her team to Sydney and was crowned MVP.

The playmaker landed the accolade for Group A after proving to be the driving force behind the host nation topping their group and going unbeaten in the competition. Anderson produced a massive 30 points in the crunch Saturday game with Australia and that was pivotal. She averaged 22.7 points and and 4.3 assists and 2 steals per game.

She is joined by her teammate Aleksandra Crvendakic, who's solid performances and transition to a team leader in the wake of the departure of legendary duo Sonja Vasic and Jelena Brooks was vital for Serbia. She averaged 9.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per outing.

Sami Whitcomb was always going to be a key figure for the Opals in the Serbian capital and that is how it unfolded. She grabbed a spot in the All-Star five having been an architect of Australia's two wins. She finished with 13.7 points and 4.3 assists per outing.

Korea were able to celebrate ,making it to Sydney thanks to the phenomenal Ji Su Park, who almost single-handedly propelled them to the event. Arguably no player did as much individually for their team to get them qualified and her incredible triple-double of 20 points, 13 rebounds and a monumental 11 blocks against Brazil was enough to get her a spot in the All-Star Five.

Finally, even if Brazil were not quite able to seal a place at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, a big positive was 20-year-old Kamilla Silva growing in influence. She came alive in the tournament and takes the last All-Star Five slot after averaging 11.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game - also shooting an average of 62 percent from the field.
