SYDNEY (Australia) - Even if there isn't a formal award for FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Group MVP, surely Puerto Rico star Ariella Guirantes can claim this unofficial crown after her epic displays.

Stepping into her first FIBA tournament, she caught fire early and has stayed hot right throughout an amazing debut which has been the fuel for Puerto Rico writing multiple historical chapters.

The guard leads her nation in almost very single statistical category including effiiciency (17.4), points (18.0), rebounds (6.4) assists (3.6) and blocks (0.6). She is the best scorer of the Women's World Cup so far.

    ...

She made her mark quickly on opening day by inspiring a landmark first ever win for her country at the event as Puerto Rico beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 82-58. Her near triple-double saw her lead the Gameday 1 Top Performers.

She was also scintillating as Puerto Rico came close to upsetting Belgium, only just losing out, with Guirantes contributing 27 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Guirantes then played a cameo in the 92-73 success against Korea that booked them a historic first ever place in the Quarter-Finals of the competition.

It's been a truly phenomenal effort and she has not finished just yet.
