Brazil announces list of 14 for FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Qualifiers
MIAMI (United States) - The Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB) released a list of 14 players called up to compete at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifiers 2022.
Brazil, who is in Group A, will play in Belgrade, Serbia, from 10 to 13 of February. They will face Australia, South Korea and the host, for only two places in the World Cup, with the Australian team already classified as host.
The roster marks the return of power forward Damiris Dantas, who was unable to perform in the last FIBA Women’s AmeriCup. Forward Jeanne Flausino, power forward Stephanie Soares and point guard Lays da Silva will also be back.
The list is completed by captain Érika de Souza, Tainá Paixão, Débora Costa, Alana Gonçalo, Isa Ramona, Patty Teixeira, Raphaella Monteiro, Thayná Silva, Mariane Carvalho and the young player from the NCAA’s University of South Carolina, Kamilla Cardoso.
The great absentee this time will be power forward Clarissa dos Santos, due to a knee injury that will not allow her to be ready in time for the competition, according to evaluations made by the CBB medical department.
The coaching staff and the players plan to start training camp in Serbia on February 1. Head coach José Neto will then define the final 12 players who will represent Brazil in the Qualifiers.
