Argentina booked its ticket to the Final of the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup with a 48-44 win over Puerto Rico. The host of the continental championship took full advantage of a slow start from the Boricuas and escaped to a 9-point lead, with great job from Agostina Burani. Puerto Rico recovered on time and won the second quarter 14-9 to cut the difference to 4 points. Once again, Puerto Rico suffered a slow start in the third quarter, as Argentina escaped to a comfortable lead with a 7-0 run. Puerto Rico cut the lead to 4 points, but then appeared the great offensive power of Burani, who scored two long range shots and gave Argentina some breathing room on the scoreboard. Puerto Rico kept fighting and closed the gap once again. Debora Gonzalez secured the qualification to the Final and the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup from the free-throw line. Agostina Burani was instrumental in the Argentinian victory with a 26-point and 12-rebound “double-double”.
