Hayes triple-double, balanced attack propel Beirut Club to 3-0

ALEPPO (Syria) - A hostile crowd in enemy territory hardly affected Beirut Club in keeping their record pristine after tearing Al-Ittihad Ahli apart, 90-69, in the WASL-West Asia, Wednesday night at the Al Hamadaniyeh Stadium in Aleppo.

The Lebanese side finished the first 10 minutes with a commanding 21-9 advantage, and then broke the game wide open in the second half en route to chalking up their third victory in as many games to stay sitting atop Group A.

Game heroes: A total of five players finished in double figures in their most impressive win to date, with Cleveland Thomas leading the pack with 20 points on a 4-of-8 clip from deep alongside 3 rebounds and 7 assists.

The night, however, belonged to Kenneth Hayes, who tallied the first WASL-West Asia triple-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists.

Gerard Hadidian missed out on a double-double with 14 points and 9 rebounds.

Ali Haidar made his presence felt as well by contributing 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Ken Horton chimed in 10 markers.

STEP AHEAD Player of the Game: For his historic feat, Hayes earned STEP AHEAD Player of the Game honors after garnering 25-percent of the fan vote.

Turning point: Beirut Club actually faced some challenge when the home team cut the gap to just seven, but Hayes and Horton joined hands for an 8-2 rally to establish a 43-30 lead entering the halftime intermission.

The visitors would never encounter any threat any since and even led by as much as a month, 83-53, following Karl Kozah's trey with under five minutes left.

Stats don't lie: Beirut Club shot 48-percent from the field, including a 13-of-34 clip from rainbow country, thanks to their WASL-West Asia record 28 assists.

They said: "I believe it was a very good game for us especially that the team played very well together. We shared the ball. The score was split on every player who stepped on the floor. It was a very good sign for us. It was very important for us to win and maintain the lead of the group in the first round. We'd like to thank the fans for supporting their team and for creating a great ambience. It was a great experience for us also to come play here. Thank you Aleppo for hosting us." - Rodrigue Akl, Beirut Club

"Our losses, it's very hard for us [to lose] before our fans. We play for the fans, we play to win for this club, but we suffer some situations. Lack of consistency with the team. Too many changes -- two players left, the changing of coaching staff. Everything can affect our performance. Of course, we want to compete. The results are not everything. We're improving. " - Anthony Bakar, Al-Ittihad Ahli
