    Mexicali, Mexico to host the Centrobasket U17 Championship

    MIAMI (United States) - The FIBA Regional Office in the Americas has selected Mexicali, Mexico as the host city for the Centrobasket U17 Championship that will be played in December 8-12.

    MIAMI (United States) - The FIBA Regional Office in the Americas has selected Mexicali, Mexico as the host city for the Centrobasket U17 Championship that will be played in December 8-12.

    The Centrobasket U17 Championship will feature the participation of Aruba, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, and Puerto Rico.

    The top three teams from the Centrobasket U17 Championship will qualify to the FIBA U18 Americas Championships 2022.

    Mexico earned the Gold Medal of the Centrobasket U17 Championship 2019, for the first time in history, with a 65-60 win over Puerto Rico.

    Mexicali is the capital city of the Mexican state of Baja California and seat of the Municipality of Mexicali. The City of Mexicali has a population of 689,775, according to the 2010 census, while the population of the entire metropolitan area reaches 936,826; making the city and metropolitan area the second most populous in Baja California.
