Pairings confirmed for the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament knockout rounds
TOKYO (Japan) - The pairings for the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament Quarter-Finals have been confirmed following the Final Phase Draw. The draw took place immediately after Monday's Australia - Puerto Rico nightcap that put a concluding bow to the women's Group Phase from the Saitama Super Arena.
Spain, USA and China were confirmed as winners of Groups A, B and C respectively, while Serbia, Japan and Belgium all took the runners-up spots in their grouping. France and Australia both qualified for the final eight of the competition as the two best third-placed teams.
For the draw, the three winners of the groups and Belgium, who were the second-placed team with the best result from the initial phase, were placed in one pot. The two remaining second-placed teams and two best third-placed teams were placed in the other pot.
Of note, teams from the same group in the Group Phase cannot be drawn against each other in the Quarter-Finals. This stage of the competition is played in a knockout format with the draw producing an Olympic bracket pathway from the Quarter-Finals to the gold medal.
