Final Phase Draw results: Pairings confirmed for the men’s knockout rounds at Tokyo 2020
TOKYO (Japan) - The pairings for the Men's Olympic Basketball Tournament Quarter-Finals have been confirmed following the Final Phase Draw. The draw took place immediately after Sunday's Spain - Slovenia nightcap that completed the men's Group Phase action from the Saitama Super Arena.
France, Australia and Slovenia went undefeated in group play to earn the top spots in Groups A, B and C, respectively. USA, Italy and Spain took the runners-up group spots after finishing 2-1 to advance to the tournament's knockout rounds. Argentina and Germany both qualified for the final eight of the competition as the two best third-placed teams.
For the draw, the three winners of the groups and the USA, who were the second-placed team with the best result from the initial phase, were placed in one pot. The 2 remaining second-placed teams and 2 best third-placed teams were placed in the other pot.
Teams from the same group in the Group Phase could not be drawn against each other in the Quarter-Finals. This stage of the competition is played in a single-elimination game knockout format with the draw producing the Olympic bracket pathway to the gold medal.
The men's Quarter-Finals all take place on Tuesday, August 3 at the Saitama Super Arena.
