RIO DE JANEIRO (Rio 2016 Olympic Games) - The United States have won the last two Olympic gold medals. Following a dominating defensive effort, especially from DeAndre Jordan in an 82-76 triumph over Spain, the Americans are now just one win away for a third straight title.
Jordan started and had 9 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks for USA. He was menacing on both ends of the floor as the USA beat the European giants for a fourth consecutive time at an Olympic Games.
"He (Jordan) was the difference maker today," USA captain Carmelo Anthony said. "On offense and defensively, the way he rebounded the ball, the way he controlled the paint. His defensive presence today was something we were looking for and he showed up today."
The USA were very good on defense against Argentina but they were even better against Spain, a team that was riding a four-game winning streak.
"We wanted them to take tough twos, we wanted them to shoot the ball being uncomfortable with a hand in their face, no uncontested shots," Anthony said. "We did that. We stayed home on the 3s.
"They penetrated, DeAndre was there to clean that up. He did a helluva job for us today."
