Guam to rely on quickness and passion in FIBA U17 Oceania Championship 2017

GUAM (FIBA U17 Oceania Championship 2017) – Guam U17 men’s coach Jin Han is honored to lead his athletes into battle against the best teams from the region on home soil at this year's FIBA U17 Oceania Championship.

"It's a great honor to represent your country at home," Coach Han told FIBA.com."These boys are going to have the chance to play for their nation in front of family and friends."

“There's not another feeling like it in the world."

Preparations for the tournament are well underway and the final squad selection is right around the corner.

"The final squad is coming together. The athletes available for selection have been working out together and are participating in schools competition."

Coach Han is already happy with how the team is taking shape.

"One of our biggest strength is going to be our guard speed. Like most Guam teams, we will be very scrappy. We plan to get up and down the floor on teams."

They know the challenge ahead but Coach Han and Team Guam are ready to face it head on.

"We know teams like Australia and New Zealand are going to be tough, but we are going to work harder than any team out there and control what we can control."

Guam has tasted success with this mentality, last year's U18 team took home Bronze at the FIBA U18 Oceania Championship 2016.

This fast-paced style of play excited the crowd and saw Guam defeat New Caledonia 87-68 in their final game to reach the podium.

This year's squad will be looking to equal or better this performance. The home crowd should help this effort.

"These athletes are extremely excited to pull on that Guam jersey and represent their country on their home floor."
