PORT MORESBY, PAPUA NEW GUINEA

Port Moresby, also referred to as ‘Pom City’ or simply ‘Moresby’, is the capital of Papua New Guinea. It is located on the shores of the Gulf of Papua, on the south-eastern coast of the Papuan Peninsula of the island of Papua New Guinea.

Port Moresby is the largest city in the South Pacific with a population of around 800,000. The country has a tremendous amount to offer, both above and below the water.

The place where the city was founded has been inhabited by the Motu-Koitabu people for centuries. The first European to see it was Captain John Moresby in 1873. It was named in honor of his father, Admiral Sir Fairfax Moresby.

Port Moresby has a tropical wet and dry climate with relatively constant temperatures throughout the year. The wet season starts in December and ends in May, the dry season covers the remaining six months.
