USA name star-studded men's 3x3 training squad as Olympics loom

COLORADO (USA) - Ahead of their men's 3x3 team's much-anticipated Olympic debut, USA Basketball has named a star-studded squad for a training camp at Colorado Springs on February 16-18.

The sixteen players selected will be vying for coveted USA roster spots on major events in 2024 headlined by the Paris Olympics, where 3x3 will be played for the second time after its successful debut in Tokyo.

The squad: Trey Bardsley, Canyon Barry, Charlie Brown Jr., Devin Cannady, Henry Caruso, Jimmer Fredette, Mitch Hahn, Justin Hamilton, Khalil Iverson, Jalen Lecque, Jeremy Lieberman, Kareem Maddox, Trey McGowens, James Parrott, Dylan Travis and Bryce Wills.

It is the first time 3x3 will be played in front of fans at an Olympics after the fan-less 2020 Games. While USA won the first women's Olympic gold medal, their men counterparts were stunned in qualification and did not make the cut of eight teams in Tokyo.

USA will be determined to make amends and the final squad of players will be something like a 'Redeem Team'.

The Olympic team is expected to be comprised of players from this camp held at USA Basketball headquarters.

There are plenty of familiar 3x3 names with former NBA player and college phenom Jimmer Fredette, Canyon Barry, Kareem Maddox and Dylan Travis having won silver for USA at the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2023.

Former NBA player Charlie Brown Jr has won gold previously at the AmeriCup, while James Parrott lit up the scoring charts in a breakout FIBA 3x3 World Tour season last year.

Trey McGowens headlines the New Gen for the red, white and blue having won MVP at the FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup 2023.
