Ngulela's Mozambique to face Nigeria in Last Eight
YAOUNDE (AfroBasket Women 2015) - In the battle for the third spot of AfroBasket Women 2015 Group A, Mozambique proved too strong for Gabon, winning the last game of the Group Phase 79-49.
It was Mozambique's third win in five games as they set up a Quarter-Finals against Nigeria.
Deolinda Ngulela ignited Mozambique's offense with 13 points and 4 assists and head coach Nasir Sale rested the veteran point guard for the entire four quarter.
Turning Point: As Gabon stepped up leading Mozambique by four points early in the opening quarter, it seemed that they could hold on for the third win in the tournament. Instead, Mozambique tightened defensively to take the lead in the second quarter and never trail again.
Stats Don't Lie: Gabon's Geraldine Robert got her third foul late in the second quarter, forcing head coach Servais Allogho to sit her until later in the third. And making only 1 of 13 three-point shooting attempts proved costly for Gabon.
Game Hero: Mozambique's Odelia Mafanela stood out, making 7 of her 10 field-goal shooting to finish with a game-high 23 points in 21:14 minutes.
Bottom Line: Unlike previous games, Gabon seemed slow, allowing Mozambique to execute successive fast-breaks, and, at some point the trailed by 32 points. Now Gabon will be put to the test facing African champions Angola in the next round.
