Lebanon beat Jordan to last Quarter-Final place

CHANGSHA-HUNAN (2015 FIBA Asia Championship) - Lebanon snapped a two-game losing skid and edged Jordan, 80-76, to claim the final Quarter-Final spot on offer at the FIBA Asia Championship.

Veselin Matic's side went into the contest on the back of defeats to Korea and China but it found its shooting groove and appeared to take a firm grip on proceedings when going in front by 18 points three minutes into the second half.

Jordan dug in and shaved points off the deficit until the very end, closing the gap to just three points. But they came up a couple of plays short of completing the comeback.

Lebanon finished fourth in Group F and will now take on Group E winners, the Philippines, in the Quarter-Finals on Thursday.

Amir Saoud came off the bench and led the Cedars with 20 points while Jordan got a game high 24 from Alex Legion.

Turning point: Though Lebanon had the wind in their sails and a big lead early in the second half, they almost saw the advantage evaporate. Jordan's very impressive Mah'd N.J. Abdeen hit a three-pointer with 3:03 left in the contest to cut the deficit to 75-70. Jordan got the ball back after and could have pulled to within three but Legion was off target with a jumper. Mohamad Ali Haidar went to the other end for Lebanon and scored to take the lead back to 77-70.

Stats Don't Lie: Jordan hit a drought from long range, making just four of 21 (19 percent) while Lebanon were are far more impressive 10 of 25 (40 percent).

Game Hero: Saoud gave Lebanon the perimeter weapon they so desperately needed, hitting four of six from three-point range. He has now hit 13 of 27 (48.1 percent) from the arc in the tournament.

The Bottom Line: Jordan dug themselves a huge hole that they simply could not climb out of against a Lebanese team that showed great mental fortitude after suffering heavy defeats to Korea and China. They will be extremely dangerous opponents for the Philippines on Thursday.
