Global Women in Leadership Forum to take place in Sydney

SYDNEY (Australia) – The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 in Sydney will form the backdrop for an exciting Global Women in Leadership Forum.

Taking place on Wednesday, September 28, the event will contribute towards the delivery of FIBA's strategic priority of Women in Basketball. Several keynote speakers and panel discussions are lined up and the focus will be on a range of topics including:

     • Women in Basketball: one of FIBA's prioritized strategic goals for 2019-2023

     • The importance of inclusion from grassroots to elite

     • Girl's grassroots programs driving participation

     • Breaking down barriers for women and girls participation globally

     • FIBA Oceania and Basketball Australia strategy for women and girls participation

     • Value proposition of women's sport in broadcast, partnerships and brand

 Her World, Her Rules is FIBA's biggest grassroots development program for girls 

The forum will be opened by the Honorary Natalie Ward MLC, Minister for Metropolitan Roads and Minister for Women's Safety and the Prevention of Domestic & Sexual Violence of New South Wales, Australia; while FIBA President Hamane Niang will also welcome delegates to the event. FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis will close the forum.

As well as strong representation from the Oceania region, many of the speakers and attendees will be from outside of basketball, including those who work in other sports such as football, in education, as well as in commercial sectors such as communications, marketing and branding.

There will also be representation from Google, who recently became FIBA's first-ever Global Partner of Women's Basketball and the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.

A number of FIBA representatives will be present, including the likes of Carol Callan, FIBA Americas President; Lena Wallin-Kantzy, Deputy Chair of FIBA Competitions Commission, Women in Basketball; and Carmen Tocala, Romanian Basketball Federation President, FIBA Central Board and Executive Committee Member.
