SEOUL (2015 FIBA Asia Championship) - Korea have installed veteran Kim Dong-Kwang as their national team coach for the FIBA Asia Championship.
Yoo Jae-Hak had been at the helm but stepped down because of conflicts with the Korean Basketball League schedule and the national team calendar.
Yoo holds the reins to KBL champions Mobis Phoebus.
Kim, 62, takes over a squad that played at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.
While Korea did not win a game in Gran Canaria, the summer did finish on a high under Yoo with the national team winning the Asia Games on home soil in Incheon.
Kim has a lot of experience in basketball as a coach and an administrator but most recently was working as a television commentator.
He did not hesitate to take over the national team.
"I feel a sense of duty," he said.
"Passion is not just limited to young people.
"I have spent most of my life coaching basketball and this is not a difficult change to grasp."
The veteran says he is eager to build on the success the team achieved in Korea in 2014.
“Continuity from last year's Incheon Asian Games is the key," he said.
"Two months is an ample time for the team to get ready and be hopeful for the best results."
At the FIBA Asia Championship in Changsha, China, Korea will play in Group C with Jordan, Singapore and China.
The winner of the event will clinch a spot in the Rio de Janeiro Games and the sides that finish second and third will be invited to the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
