FIBA statement regarding the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 Qualifying Tournament in Washington

Due to the travel and health restrictions in the USA and the type of vaccination of Russian delegation members which remains not recognized in the USA, the Russian team will not be able to travel to Washington D.C. for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 Qualifying Tournament, despite significant efforts by the Russian Basketball Federation, USA Basketball and FIBA.

In the circumstances, in order to ensure a fair chance for each team to qualify, the FIBA Executive Committee has taken following decisions concerning the Qualifying Tournament scheduled in Washington D.C.:

The following games will be played in Washington D.C., USA (times to be announced soon):

Thursday, February 10 - PUR vs BEL
Friday, February 11 - BEL vs USA
Saturday, February 12 - USA vs PUR

The following games will be played in Santo Domingo, DOM:

Sunday, February 13 - RUS vs BEL
Monday, February 14 - PUR vs RUS

The game USA vs RUS will not be played.

Three teams will qualify for FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022: the top two teams and USA, who was granted automatic qualification as winners of the Women's Olympic Basketball Tournament in Tokyo.

All three other tournaments shall keep the existing format.
