FIBA Players' Commission emphasizes staying safe at FIBA competitions
MIES (Switzerland) - The FIBA Players' Commission is emphasizing the importance of safety ahead of the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2021 Qualifiers and the forthcoming men's FIBA Continental Cup Qualifiers.
Set to take place across six protected environment tournaments in Amsterdam (NED), Heraklion (GRE), Istanbul (TUR), Odivelas (POR), Riga (LAT) and Sarajevo (BIH) from November 12-15, 2020, the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2021 Qualifiers mark the return of FIBA's national team competitions, which will see strict coronavirus protocols adopted for the upcoming windows.
A video message featuring FIBA Players' Commission's members Ilona Korstin, Hamchetou Maiga Ba, Marko Milic, Yegor Meshcheriakov, Yuko Oga Marie-Eve Paget and Nikos Zisis introduces the participants of the bubbles with the measures taken to guarantee a safe environment for players, coaches, officials and staff at the Qualifiers.
These precautionary measures have been developed by the FIBA Medical Commission after consultation with the World Health Organization, FIBA is also working closely with all participating Federations, as well as the relevant government departments of each hub host.
FIBA has already gathered valuable experience in successfully managing this type of tournament in a 'bubble' format via the likes of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Hungary Masters 2020 in Debrecen which saw participation of players from, the Americas, Asia and Europe, the Basketball Champions League Qualifiers in Cyprus and Bulgaria, as well the Basketball Champions League Final 8 in Athens.

Each athlete and team member will have had two tests prior to traveling and will then also have had another undertaken upon arrival.
Additionally, all players, team delegates and officials have been requested to have been in 'relative isolation' during the period prior to the window.
Teams are staying in designated hotels, with dedicated transportation to venues.
Importantly, each participating team has also been designated a Biosecurity Compliance Official to ensure all protocols are being followed.
