ANDORRA LA VELLA (Andorra) - During his visit to Andorra la Vella, FIBA Europe President Turgay Demirel was welcomed by the Prime Minister of Andorra, Mr. Xavier Espot Zamora.

The meeting was also attended by the President of the Andorran Basketball Federation, Mr. Manuel Fernandez, and Secretary General, Ms. Beatriz Soldevila.

During a cordial conversation, the continued development of basketball in the country was the main talking point with an emphasis on youth basketball and the opportunities the growing 3x3 movement offers to smaller countries.

"The Andorran Basketball Federation has done an excellent job of promoting the sport in the country and we always present Andorra as a model for other developing and small federations to follow. It is always heart-warming to see a country approach FIBA events with such enthusiasm," said Mr. Demirel.

"Even in a small country with limited resources, there is tremendous basketball potential in Andorra and it is important to build on this positive momentum by fielding teams in as many tournaments as possible and continuing to invest in the future of the sport."

Having organized 38 different events over the past 20 years, the country has continued this proud tradition by playing host to Division C tournaments of FIBA U18 European Championship and FIBA U18 Women's European Championship this year.
