FIBA decision regarding incidents at the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 game between Turkey and Georgia

The investigation opened by FIBA following the allegations from both National Federations in relation to incidents at the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 game between Turkey and Georgia is now concluded.

In accordance with the FIBA Regulations, the Disciplinary Panel has imposed the following sanctions:

•    Goga Bitadze receives a fine of 15,000 CHF and is put on three year period probation. If the player commits the same or similar offence during the probationary period, he will immediately be suspended for 5 Official Games, in addition to any sanction imposed for the new offence.

•    Duda Sanadze receives a fine of 3,000 CHF and is put on three year period probation. If the player commits the same or similar offence during the probationary period, he will immediately be suspended for 1 Official Game, in addition to any sanction imposed for the new offence.

•    Tornike Shengelia receives a fine of 5,000 CHF and is put on three year period probation. If the player commits the same or similar offence during the probationary period, he will immediately be suspended for 2 Official Games, in addition to any sanction imposed for the new offence.

•    Furkan Korkmaz receives a fine of 6,000 CHF and is put on three year period probation. If the player commits the same or similar offence during the probationary period, he will immediately be suspended for 3 Official Games, in addition to any sanction imposed for the new offence.

•    A fine of CHF 40,000 CHF to the Georgian Basketball Federation.

•    A fine of CHF 15,000 CHF to the Turkish Basketball Federation.

FIBA will make no further comment on this decision.
