eFIBA, the international NBA 2K competition, returns with Season 2 and in-person World Finals

MIES (Switzerland) – The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) are pleased to announce the second season of eFIBA, the national team competition on NBA 2K24. As the home of international 2K basketball, the competition offers National Federations a clear esports circuit and the opportunity to prove themselves as the best nation on NBA 2K.

Beginning this autumn, some of the world’s elite NBA 2K players will represent their countries in the eFIBA Season 2. Similar to eFIBA Season 1, the competition will be played on PlayStation 5 and feature a 5v5 format on the ProAM gamemode on NBA 2K24, allowing players to compete as organized squads, while being represented by their own in-game avatars on the virtual court.

Commencing in October, Season 2 of eFIBA consists of online Regional Qualifiers and Regional Finals across the four FIBA Regions of Africa, Americas, Asia (including Oceania) and Europe. The top two nations of each of the Regional Finals will proceed to the first in-person eFIBA World Finals 2023, which will take place later this year and crown the world’s best national eFIBA team. The full lineup for eFIBA Season 2 as well as additional details about the eFIBA World Finals 2023 will be revealed later in the year.

“After a very successful eFIBA Season 1, which featured some exciting games and captivating moments, we are thrilled to now go to the next level with the inclusion of in-person Finals – the first ever in the history of eFIBA – and announce the arrival of Season 2. The passion and enthusiasm exhibited by the expanding eFIBA community is truly remarkable, and we are delighted to bring this next season of national team basketball to both esport teams and fans across the world,” said Frank Leenders, FIBA Media and Marketing Services Director General.

“We’re excited to announce Season 2 of eFIBA alongside our partner,” said Roger Lodewick, President, Sports Games at ESL FACEIT Group. “eFIBA was created to nurture and develop the passionate NBA 2K community while offering competitive and thrilling online and offline events. Its inaugural season has already left a tremendous mark on the sports games esports scene, and we can’t wait to continue building the global esports ecosystem for national teams with FIBA.”

The inaugural season of eFIBA earlier this year offered the esports community entertaining online as more than 30 different nations competed against one another for the crown of the top national NBA 2K team in each of the 6 conferences. Season 1 saw 30 teams divided into six subregions Brazil, Morocco, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia and Turkey were Season 1 conference winners.

Recently, FIBA, 2K, and the NBA 2K League entered into an agreement that offers a unique platform to organize international events for National Federations and the esports and gaming communities. The multi-year deal provides an opportunity to identify regional talents, offering eFIBA participants a chance to compete in NBA 2K League events or the NBA 2K League Draft, as well as establishing a clear national team competition system.
