Colleges from Lithuania and Mexico win titles at FISU University 3x3 World Cup 2023
DOHA (Qatar) - Lithuania's Vytautas Magnus University (men's) and Mexico’s Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (women's) emerged victorious at the FISU University 3x3 World Cup 2023.
DOHA (Qatar) - Lithuania's Vytautas Magnus University (men's) and Mexico’s Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (women's) emerged victorious at the FISU University 3x3 World Cup 2023.
The three-day event on November 10-12 featured 12 women’s teams and 12 men’s teams and was organised by the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation.
In the men's, Vytautas Magnus University easily beat the University of Sydney from Australia 21-12 to claim the title.
There was an upset in the bronze medal match with Ukraine's Sumy State University defeating two-time defending champions Paulista University from Brazil.
This thriller was only decided in OT with Sumy State winning 20-18 to deny Paulista's bid for a three-peat.
To the delight of the passionate local fans, Qatar University reached the quarter-finals for the first time in the event's history before losing to Paulista University.

Gold: Vytautas Magnus University (LTU)
Silver: University of Sydney (AUS)
Bronze: Sumy State (UKR)

In the women's category, the Mexican University of Monterrey defeated the American University of Cairo from Egypt 14-7 to clinch the women's title.
In the bronze medal game, Ukraine's Vasyl Stefanyk Preparpathian National University ensured they reached the podium after defeating Romania's Politehnica Bucuresti-Pitesti University Center17-10.
