China U24 and Logrono Central, impressive first day at Women Series Debrecen

DEBRECEN (Hungary) - Sill battling to secure the spot for the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Final in Hangzhou, China U24 put up an impressive performance in the first day of WS Debrecen, the last stop of the regular season. Also dominant was the Spanish side, Logrono Central.

Both teams finished the day with a perfect record, 3-0 and qualified directly to the semifinals.

The Chinese team is currently sitting on the 8th and final qualification spot in the race for Hangzhou Final but is still seeing its position threatened by Czechia. Led by Yuting Deng, with 26 points in three games, China U24 rolled through the pool stage, defeating Czechia, Debrecen and Freiburg by a margin of at least five points.

With two changes in the roster, compared with the team that finished 4th in Baku, Logrono Central dominated the first day of the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series Debrecen.

Their balanced offense was a matchup nightmare for the opponents, and Logrono finished they day with three players in the Top 10 Scorers, Villen (17), van den Adel (16) and Cuesta (15). Natalie van den Adel brought her two times Europe Cup silver medalist experience into this young and upcoming team, and was one of the keys to success.

Led by their superstar Khulan Onolbaatar, with 21 points in three games, Mongolia finished second in the Pool A, backed up by its hardcore fans who made their presence felt also in Hungary. Mongolians will meet the home crowd favorites Debrecen in the quarter-finals in a clash that promises to be electrifying both on the court and in the bleachers.

The winner will face China in the semi-finals.

On the other half of the bracket, the winner between Czechia and Ukraine will meet Logrono Central in the semi-finals.

Katerina Galickova from Czechia is leading all scorers after the first day, with 27 points, while Davinia Villen, from Logrono Central had an outstanding performance with 26.7 in P-Val.
