And how many points has LeBron scored for USA Basketball?

MIES (Switzerland) - With LeBron James set to beat Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's record of the most points scored (38,387) in the NBA, international basketball has the opportunity to celebrate the King's impact for the USA.

The two-time Olympic champion (2008, 2012), James has amassed 979 national team points, a combination of his time in FIBA competition, USA exhibition games and the 2001 Youth Development Festival.

James, still a teenager, played at his first Olympics in 2004 and scored 43 points in the tournament

As a 19-year-old at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, James had 43 points overall for the USA, who claimed the bronze medal.

At the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2006 in Japan, James had 125 as the United States again finished third.

His production shot up to 181 points in the USA's title march at the FIBA AmeriCup 2007, while in the gold medal-winning runs at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games, James had 124 and 106 points, respectively.

All of that added up to 579 points in FIBA competitions, plus the 400 points from exhibition games and the youth festival.

While James, who is 36 points behind Kareem's mark, is on the verge of becoming the top scorer in NBA history, he is not the highest scorer in USA Basketball history since Carmelo Anthony, using the same criteria, has 1,265 points.
