FIBA U17W - MVP DeShields heads All-Tournament Team

AMSTERDAM (2012 FIBA U17 World Championship for Women) – Diamond DeShields not only claimed her third gold medal in as many summers playing for the United States in Amsterdam on Sunday as Team USA successfully defended their crown at the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship for Women, she also was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament, presented by Tissot.

DeShields bounced back from a subpar Semi-Final to collect 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in the USA’s 75-62 victory over Spain in the Final.

The small forward now adds the MVP and U17 world champion titles to her previous golds at the 2010 U18 FIBA Americas and 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women.

Joining DeShields on the All-Tournament Team is her American teammate Linnae Harper and Spain's Leticia Romero at the guard positions.

The other top team honors went to Japan's low post tandem of Yunika Nakamura and Evelyn Mawuli – who both finished fourth in the tournament with the Asian team.

The MVP and All-Tournament Team were voted by coaches of the 12 teams at the FIBA U17 World Championship for Women as well as by selected media.
