Day 9: Guaros and Estudiantes earn tickets to Semi-Final Phase

Estudiantes Concordia secured its qualification to the next round of the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana following a 66-56 win over Malvin de Montevideo. Estudiantes jumped to a comfortable lead following a 25-13 quarter, but Malvin never stopped fighting and closed the gap. Led offensively by Mendoza and Doblas, the argentine team kept a safe distance and secured the qualification.

Guaros de Lara ended the preliminary group with the top position after defeating the host Universo/Vitoria 62-89, for a 3-0 performance in the preliminary phase. The Venezuelan club dominated from the get-go, and escaped to a 20-point lead early on the game. Universo/Vitoria tried to respond, but Guaros offensive power didn’t allow a comeback. With 5 players scoring in double digits, Guaros took the win.

Following the conclusion of the first three preliminary groups, Aguada de Montevideo also secured a trip to the Semi-Final Phase of the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana, as the best team to end in the third position of the three groups.
Group D of the DIRECTV Liga Sudamericana will be played October 24-26 in Potosi, Bolivia and will feature the participation of Regatas Lima (Peru), Olimpia (Paraguay) and HR Portoviejo (Ecuador) and host Deportivo Calero (Bolivia).
