Two to four: The FIBA Europe Cup triple-double club doubles in size

MUNICH (Germany) - There were two triple-doubles in the first six seasons of the FIBA Europe Cup and then two more came along in as many weeks in the current 2021-22 campaign.

We take a look back on the four performances.

CAMERON WELLS - 21 PTS / 11 REB / 11 AST (October 27, 2021)

Wells became the first player to score more than 20 points in a triple-double performance, but his effort came in vain as medi Bayreuth suffered a 91-81 loss on the road against London Lions. The American added 11 rebounds and 11 assists to a 21-point haul to help his side battle back in the second half having been as many as 16 points behind.

This is the 33-year-old point guard's second season in the FIBA Europe Cup, having previously represented s.Oliver Wurzburg in the 2018-19 edition when the German side finished as runners-up to Dinamo Sassari in the two-legged Final.

MATT MOBLEY - 16 PTS / 10 REB / 11 AST (October 20, 2021)

Mobley produced the magic for Casademont Zaragoza to lead his side to their first-ever victory in FIBA Europe Cup action. The American guard contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists in an impressive display as the Spaniards secured a dramatic 91-90 triumph away at Hapoel Gilboa Galil.

The 27-year-old is also making a return to the competition having averaged 15.0 points per game with Spirou Basket in the 2018-19 season, which was also his first as a professional out of NCAA side St. Bonaventure.

SPEEDY SMITH - 20 PTS / 10 REB / 10 AST  (January 8, 2020)

Interestingly, the second triple-double display in competition history came along more than four years after the very first one. Speedy Smith was just a month into his tenure with Spirou Basket when he dropped a 20-10-10 stat-line, although the performance came in a 97-90 defeat at home to medi Bayreuth.

Smith made an instant impact in Charleroi and finished as the season's leader in assists, averaging 9 dimes per game. The American guard has since played two seasons in the Basketball Champions League with Limoges and Rytas Vilnius.

IVAN MARAS - 12 PTS / 14 REB / 10 AST (November 18, 2015)

Maras made history in the inaugural FIBA Europe Cup season by becoming the first player to record a triple-double in the competition. The Montenegrin international posted 12 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists for Tsmoki-Minsk in a 98-67 victory over MBK Kamarno.

The now 35-year-old is currently into a third consecutive season with Belgian side Okapi Aalstar with his last appearance in European club competition coming with Aris in the 2017-18 Basketball Champions League season.
