MUNICH (FIBA Europe Cup) - Four more teams joined the FIBA Europe Cup ranks following their elimination from the Basketball Champions League in Qualification Round 2.
Lukoil Levski (BUL), Bakken Bears (DEN), Aris (GRE) and Donar Groningen (NED) transferred straight to the Regular Season, continuing to fill up the 32-team field for the Group Phase.
Bakken Bears and Donar Groningen already have multiple seasons in the competition under the belt and both went as far as the Semi-Finals last year, while the other pair of inbound clubs are set to make their FIBA Europe Cup debuts.
A historic name in European basketball, Aris will become the first team from Greece to ever take part in the Group Phase of the competition after their compatriots Lavrio Aegean Cargo failed to make it out of the Qualifiers. In the past two seasons, the Thessaloniki side took part in the Basketball Champions League.
Meanwhile, Levski are making a return to the European stage after a lengthy break without international basketball altogether. The Bulgarian champions registered their last appearance in a continental competition back in the 2002-03 season, when they competed in the FIBA Champions Cup.
This is already the second set of team to arrive from the Basketball Champions League Qualifiers, with the first dispatch providing eight clubs; six more teams received direct spots in the Regular Season.
There are 14 vacancies left in the Group Phase, with the rest of the spots to be confirmed via the Second Round of the FIBA Europe Cup Qualifiers and Basketball Champions League Qualification Round 3.
