MUNICH (FIBA Europe Cup) - The FIBA Europe Cup was supplemented by eight more teams from the Basketball Champions League following the conclusion of Qualification Round 3.
Having fallen just a step short from attaining their goal of reaching the Regular Season in the Basketball Champions League, the clubs will not be left without international basketball, receiving direct spots to the FIBA Europe Cup Regular Season.
The majority of the teams already have a history in the competition, with the exception of Avtodor Saratov (RUS), the only incoming club not to have played in the FIBA Europe Cup in the past.
Meanwhile, Lukoil Academic (BUL), Telenet Antwerp Giants (BEL), Alba Fehervar (HUN), Tsmoki Minsk (BLR), Kataja Basket (FIN), Basic-Fit Brussels (BEL) and Donar Groningen (NED) have all taken part at some stage of the competition last year.
This is already the third group of teams to join the FIBA Europe Cup from the Basketball Champions League Qualification Rounds, with 11 teams from Qualification Rounds 1 and 2 already waiting for their Regular Season opponents.
The rest of the 32-team field will be filled by teams from the FIBA Europe Cup Qualification Rounds, which are set to be completed next week after the second-leg contests in Qualification Round 2 are played.
