Bakken Bears sweep Horsens IC, keep Danish title in Aarhus

AARHUS (Danish Basketball League) - There was no matching Bakken Bears in the Danish Basketball League for the second season in a row, with the FIBA Europe Cup darlings retaining their domestic crown after sweeping Horsens IC in the Finals.

The Steffen Wich-coached club sealed the deal with an 83-76 victory against their top-seeded opponents at the Vejlby-Risskov Hallen on Monday to close out the series 4-0, completing a fantastic season in style.

Jeffrey Crockett paced the Bears with a team-high 20 points in the title-clinching win, while Michel Diouf posted a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double.

Darko Jukic had 14 points and 7 assists, Tony Bishop added 13 points and 5 boards, with DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell chipping in with 11 points and 7 assists.

Although the Finals proved to be one-sided, Bakken Bears needed to get through some adversity in the Play-Offs, as they found themselves down 2-0 in the Semi-Finals against Team FOG Naestved, before winning three in a row to move on to the title series.

This was the 16th championship title in the history of the Aarhus club, who have triumphed in 15 of the past 21 seasons of the Danish Basketball League since 1997.

Earlier in the season, Bakken Bears also lifted the Danish Basketball Cup and registered the best-ever performance by a Danish side on the international stage, reaching the Semi-Finals of the FIBA Europe Cup.
