Unbeaten quartet lead teams into the Quarter-Finals in Klatovy
KLATOVY (Czech Republic) - Russia, Belgium, France and Spain all maintained their perfect records at the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship as the Quarter-Finals lineup was confirmed on Wednesday.
Russia survived a major scare against Germany - who went 0-3 in the Group Phase - before they eventually prevailed 53-47 with Anastasiia Zotkina collecting 15 rebounds to go with 7 points to help her side through a stern test.
Poland claimed arguably the biggest surprise of the day when they opened the Round of 16 action with a 59-48 victory over the Netherlands. Having trailed 18-9 after 10 minutes, they battled back in a strong finish and their reward is a last eight meeting with Belgium.
With a rested Billie Massey returning to action with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 5 steals, the Young Cats moved into the next round, despite a second-half slump in a 48-42 win against Latvia.
The hosts saw their top eight hopes dashed as Italy produced a decisive 9-0 run to close out a 64-59 triumph over Czech Republic. Costanza Verona finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
