    Serbia overpower elite opposition, win Turgut Atakol Tournament ahead of hosts and Italy

    ISTANBUL (FIBA U20 European Championship 2018) – Serbia boosted their confidence for the FIBA U20 European Championship by topping the field at the 23rd edition of the prestigious Turgut Atakol Tournament.

    ISTANBUL (FIBA U20 European Championship 2018) – Serbia boosted their confidence ahead of the FIBA U20 European Championship in Chemnitz by topping the field at the 23rd edition of the prestigious Turgut Atakol Tournament for the second time in a row.

    With three wins in five games, the Vladimir Jovanovic-coached side secured top spot in the standings in a complicated four-way tie against Turkey, Italy and Lithuania, who all had identical 3-2 records.

    Stefan Djordjevic finished the event as the top scorer for Serbia after averaging 11.6 points and 4.0 rebounds in Istanbul, while point guard Novak Music also played a big role with 10.4 points and 5.2 assists per game.

    The tournament hosts, Turkey, finished second in the final pecking order, Italy secured third place, while Lithuania were the odd team out and missed the podium.

    France finished fifth in the event with a 2-3 record; Montenegro placed last after picking up just one win along the way, but had two of the tournament's leading scorers in Milos Popovic and Milic Starovlah.

    The FIBA U20 European Championship 2018 is set to tip off later this week in Chemnitz and will take place from July 14-22.
