Kosovo in triple digits, Wales defence crucial against Moldova
SERRAVALLE (FIBA U18 European Championship 2016 Division C) - Kosovo maintained their perfect record with a win over Malta, while Wales jumped up to second place in Group B by defeating Moldova.
Kosovo are not only at 3-0 atop of Group B, but are also the first team to break the century mark at the Championship. Their 110-61 victory over Malta assured them a place in the Semi-Finals. Gent Shala was unstoppable, scoring 21 points in less than 21 minutes of play. He shot 9-of-14 from the field and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Kosovo to a big win. Etnik Peci was also impressive with 20 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals, and Vigan Gashi added 19 points. Muhamedali Janjeva with 11 and Korab Muhadri with 10 were also in double figures for the winning team. Matthew Gouder and Thomas Grech combined for 25 of Malta's 61 points.
In the other game in Group B, Wales held Moldova to just nine fourth quarter points in a 69-62 win. Morgan Carter continued his fine form in San Marino. For the third straight time Carter had a double-double, scoring 29 points on a 10-of-19 shooting night, as well as grabbing 10 rebounds. Stelios Koukouravas had 16 points and Lewis Pettitt was the third member of the double figures club with 13. Victor Legosin was the best Moldova player with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
On Tuesday, four more games will be played, including the all important one between San Marino and Wales. The winner advances to the Semi-Finals.
