Sabally set to inspire Germany again

HAGEN (FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2016) - When the action gets underway at the FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship in Udine, German forward Nyara Sabally will be near the top of everybody's watch-list.

The athletic and powerful center was the standout name as Germany revealed their initial list of candidates for an event which saw them excel in last year.

Sabally was at the heart of a super campaign in Matosinhos when Germany secured their best ever finish at U16 level. While preserving their Division A status may have been the primary aim, they left Portuguese soil having only just missed out on the Quarter-Finals.

Much of that was down to Sabally, since she was the most prolific rebounder in the entire competition after corralling an excellent 13.2 rebounds per game.

Germany can also draw strength from the fact that Sabally the only performer from Matosinhos back on board.

There is also added continuity from the possible returns of Anja Oehm, Leonie Fiebich, Luisa Geiselsoder, Jenny Strozyk and Jessika Schiffer, whose three-point shooting was one of the highlights of last summer’s exhilarating campaign.

Germany will lock horns in Udine against Group A rivals, Hungary, Portugal and Spain.
