German ace Geiselsoder named MVP to lead All-Star Five

UDINE (FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2016) – Germany’s Luisa Geiselsoder was rewarded for leading her nation to a first ever youth Final by being crowned MVP at the FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship 2016.

The forward was the hero in her team’s magnificent and dramatic Semi-Final win against France when she poured in 20 points, before adding 17 points in the Final.

Her team-mate Leonie Fiebich was also named in the All-Star Five and the accolade will sit nicely alongside her silver medal. The small forward was certainly the player who fuelled Germany’s early charge through the tournament with some brilliant displays.

For Spanish guard Ainhoa Lacorzana, it was a double celebration as she picked up her All-Star Five award before climbing to the top podium step to pick up her gold medal in after her nation’s wonderful tenth title at the event.

Croatia were arguably the surprise team of the competition after they took fifth spot and it was mainly due to Mihaela Lazic pulling the strings in the backcourt. She did plenty to impress and landed enough votes from the head coaches in the competition to crash her way into the line-up.

Finally, the most popular member of the All-Star Five was local favourite Sara Madera. The Italian forward helped the hosts enjoy their time on home soil by powering them to the Semi-Finals. It is the second time she has made an All-Star Five at a FIBA event this summer, having gained recognition at the FIBA U17 Women’s World Championship in Zaragoza, when Italy reached the Final for the first time.
