    Winkler earns MVP honors to headline All-Star Five

    CHISINAU (FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2018, Division C) –After leading Austria to gold at the FIBA U16 European Championship 2018, Division C in Moldova, Sarah Pia Winkler was named MVP.

    CHISINAU (FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2018, Division C) – After leading Austria to gold at the FIBA U16 European Championship 2018, Division C in Moldova, Sarah Pia Winkler was honored as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

    The 16-year-old forward played a lead role on the packed Austrian roster, averaging 12.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.8 steals per game for coach Aldin Saracevic, whose side went undefeated in Chisinau.

    Austria won all five games, downing Scotland 69-48 in the Final to secure the country's first-ever medal in an official FIBA youth event.

    Winker was joined in the tournament's All-Star Five by representatives of four other national teams, including  Sophie Loughran of runners-up Scotland and third-place medalist Nino Gadelia of Georgia.

    Monaco's point guard Hermance Marti and power forward Sasha Lecuyer of Malta, who both enjoyed successful tournaments despite falling short of the podium, rounded out the selection of the All-Star Five.
