ANDORRA LA VELLA (FIBA U16 Women's European Championship 2016 Division C) - Kosovo and Georgia booked their places in the Semi-Finals and will now enjoy two days off before returning to the floor.
Kosovo were forced to work overtime, as they defeated Malta 58-57 after 45 minutes of play. Malta had done an amazing job in coming back from 13 points down in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter. With 26 seconds left, Kirsty Caruana finished off a 13-0 run to take the game to overtime.
The same player was responsible for a 55-49 lead for Malta with less than three minutes to play. Besjana Martinaj and Leona Rexhepi then tied the game, but Caruana had another answer ready, making it 57-55 entering the final minute of overtime.
However, Kosovo won the crazy finish, thanks to a Djellza Kryeziu three-pointer with 13 seconds left. Kosovo held on, as Kryeziu finished with 22 points - on 9-of-12 from the field - and 13 rebounds. Martinaj added 20 more points. Caruana had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Malta.
Kosovo are safe at 2-0, while Malta and Wales fight for second spot in Group A. The winner of that match-up will play against the third-placed team from Group B in the Qualifying Games for Semi-Finals. The loser will go up against the two-seed from Group B.
Meanwhile, Georgia have joined Kosovo in the Semi-Finals, as the winners of Group B. Natalia Otkhmezuri was once again unstoppable, with 21 points and six rebounds in a 55-38 win over Andorra. Gvantsa Bochorishvili helped with 12 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. Andorra will play against Gibraltar on the final game day of group play.
