Serbia and Turkey earn promotion as Final showdown is set

PODGORICA (Montenegro) - Serbia and Turkey secured promotions to Division A on Friday and will now face off in the Final at the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship, Division B on Saturday to see who will be crowned champion.

In the first Semi-Final of the day, Serbia had no problems with Sweden, defeating them 64-44. Sweden had a great fourth quarter where they outscored Serbia 29-14, but they were already in too big of a hole. After Serbia held Sweden to just 15 points at halftime, they outdid that and actually shut them out in the third quarter (16-0).

Sweden's shooting let them down and was the key reason for their loss, as they shot 23.1 percent from the field and 11.8 percent from three-point. For Serbia, all 12 players played and all but two of them scored. Jovana Popovic, Minja Arandelovic and Jana Vesic led the way, scoring 10 points each.

In the second Semi-Final, Turkey flexed their muscles again, winning their fourth straight game, this time against Israel 71-51. Selin Tekin had another 20-point performance off the bench, scoring 25 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the field and 7-of-14 shooting from three-point.

Turkey outscored Israel by 18 points from beyond the arc, while Israel struggled to get their shot to fall, only getting 21.1 percent of shots to fall from distance.

The two teams who lost in the Semi-Finals, Israel and Sweden, will now face off in the Third-Place game.

In the 5-8 Classification Games, Bulgaria snuck by Austria 64-61, their (Bulgaria) second margin within three points of the tournament, while Slovakia beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 67-57.

In the 9-12 Classification Games, Netherlands took care of Great Britain 72-55, while hosts Montenegro added another win at the expense of Iceland, 87-75. In the 13-16 Classification Games, Ukraine beat Norway 53-44 while Romania got by Ireland in a close one, 55-54.

In the 17-19 Classification Game in Group E, Luxembourg defeated Switzerland 75-68.
