    MVP Dominguez headlines All-Star Five in Udine

    UDINE (Italy) - Ruben Dominguez claimed the Most Valuable Player award of the FIBA U16 European Championship 2019 after guiding Spain to the country’s fifth title.

    UDINE (Italy) - Ruben Dominguez claimed the Most Valuable Player award of the FIBA U16 European Championship 2019 after guiding Spain to the title.

    Dominguez tallied 15 points in helping Spain beat France 70-61 in the Final, averaging 13.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals in the tournament. He was joined on the All-Star Five by Spanish teammate Juan Nunez, Victor Wembanyama of France, Italy's Matteo Spagnolo and Adem Bona of Turkey.

    Nunez collected 10.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.3 assists per game and he tallied 21 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 assists in the Final. Meanwhile, Wembanyama picked up 7 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks in the loss to Spain while averaging 9.0 points, 9.6 rebounds, a tournament-leading 5.3 blocks, 1.4 assists and 1.3 steals.

    Spagnolo helped Italy to third place by averaging 16.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.6 assists. Bona for his part was a walking highlight machine with one spectacular dunk and block after another, helping Turkey finish fifth and secure a berth at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2020. He averaged 14.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.0 blocks, ranking him second in rebounds and blocks in the tournament.
