The result delighted Kosice head coach Peter Jankovic who said: "Our players were very nervous at the start of the game.
"Our defense was not working very well for us and we allowed too many offensive rebounds for Cegled.
"But fortunately for us, we wrote a different story in the second half.
"However, this is not the moment celebrations, because we also want to win next week too," he stressed.
Despite the loss, Cegled will still be hopeful they can rescue their position in the return game, with Kosice having only won one of their five road games this season.
Meanwhile Galatasaray hold the upper hand in their tie against Virtus Eirene Ragusa, after collecting a 77-67 triumph on their travels and building a useful cushion for the return game in Istanbul.
Moriah Jefferson posted another highly influential effort with a team-high 16 points, while also dishing up 6 assists to keep Galatasaray perfect in the competition this season.
Astou Ndour racked up 15 points and 10 rebounds in defeat for the Italians, with the newcomers knowing they will have to pull off a majpr upset to progress.
