EuroCup Women: Thursday Review

MISKOLC (EuroCup Women) - Olympiacos bounced back from an agonising defeat last week to claim their first-ever EuroCup Women victory by holding off Aluinvent Miskolc for a 60-61 success on the road.

Lykendra Johnson starred with 9 points, 13 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks in the victory to help her side make history.

"Both teams had a chance for the win, but I'm so glad that we got it," said Olympiacos' Olga Chatzinikolau.

"Our start was very effective in the beginning then they began to defend very hard and we didn't find the right places and right shots."

Meanwhile, Yakin Dogu Universitesi secured their second straight win as they eased to a 70-46 victory at home to Good Angels Kosice following a strong defensive display.

The home side handed a debut to 2016 WNBA champion Essence Carson and she hit the ground running with a game-high 16 points, while Angelica Robinson added 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Moriah Jefferson poured in 30 points to lead Galatasaray to a 75-90 success away at Samsun Canik in an all-Turkish clash as they take control of Group C with their second win.

Gunta Basko-Melnbarde flirted with a triple-double as she posted 15 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists as well as adding 3 steals to lead TTT Riga to a 77-59 win over Gameday 1 victors, Dynamo Novosibirsk.

"We've had two good practices – a tactical one and a physical one on Tuesday," said TTT Riga head coach,Aigars Nerips. "It helped our fighting spirit today.

"Giedre Paugaite played her best game so far, especially on offence. Gunta Basko-Melnbarde inspired the rest of the team and showed a good example in rebounding."

Maccabi Bnot maintained their winning start in Group A as Tiffany Jackson led the way with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals in an 84-65 victory over Hoptrans-Sirenos.

They were joined on a 2-0 start by VBW Cekk Cegled, who held off a second-half fightback from Sparta&K M.R Vidnoje to win 62-50 with double-doubles from Nora Nagy-Bujdoso and Maja Skoric.

Basketball Nymburk bounced back from an opening defeat last week by claiming a convincing 70-41 victory against Namur, who drop to 0-2 in Group E.

Aleksandra Khomenchuk shone for the home side after racking up 19 points and 12 rebounds, along with 4 assists and 4 blocks in a dominant display.

Carolo Basket were another side to make it two wins from two after netting 36 points in the third quarter en route to a 67-97 triumph at Lulea BBK.

Ify Ibekwe stole the show for Spar Citylift Girona with a sparkling 26 points and 15 boards in a 74-60 success against Castors Braine, in Group F. 

Also, Virtus Eirene Ragusa came out on top in the final game of the night as they came from 11 points down after the first quarter to beat Nantes Reze 67-50 with four players in double figures.
