Allen stars for Kosice in Round of 16 opener to headline Top Performers

MUNICH (EuroCup Women) – Rebecca Allen delivered a dazzling performance on Thursday to lead Good Angels Kosice past previously undefeated Flammes Carolo Basket in the first leg of the EuroCup Women Round of 16.
Kosice produced an 83-64 win at home to enter next week’s return leg in France with a 19-point cushion. Allen tallied a game-high 27 points on perfect 5-of-5 shooting from three-point range and added 7 rebounds for an efficiency rating of 29 to lead this week’s Top Performers.
Following Carolo Basket’s defeat, four teams remain undefeated in the competition – Bellona AGU, Galatasaray, Yakin Dogu Universitesi, and Spar CityLift Girona.

Yakin Dogu Universitesi could rely on their stars, as they claimed a 76-62 win at Rutronik Stars Keltern. The Turkish side had four players scoring in double figures, with two of those also earning Top Performer honors. Courtney Vandersloot orchestrated the offense perfectly with 18 points and eight assists, while Essence Carson added a highly-efficient 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Girona faced a tougher task against TSV 1880 Wasserburg, but eventually prevailed 66-62 on the road. Ify Ibekwe has been averaging a double-double over the season and boosted her numbers further by corralling 20 points and 11 rebounds.
The Top Performer line-up is rounded out by VBW CEKK Cegled center Jelena Maksimovic who finished with an efficiency of 26 in her team’s 73-66 win over TTT Riga. The 34-year-old veteran shot 8-of-11 from the field on her way to 16 points and 13 rebounds.
