Andorra Challenger competition system modified as Georgia withdraw

MUNICH (Germany) - FIBA Europe has authorized a change to the competition system of the FIBA U18 Women's European Challenger in Andorra la Vella following Georgia's withdrawal from the competition.

MUNICH (Germany) - FIBA Europe has authorized  a change to the competition system of the FIBA U18 Women's European Challenger in Andorra la Vella following Georgia's withdrawal from the competition.

The Georgian Basketball Federation informed FIBA Europe and the local organizers on Saturday that their U18 women's national team would be unable to take part in the tournament, after two players tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the team's scheduled trip to the capital of Andorra.

This development leaves the tournament with four participating teams - Cyprus, Malta, Moldova and hosts Andorra - as Gibraltar were also forced to withdraw earlier in the week.

The four teams will now play each other in a round-robin format during the first three days of action and then the top-placed team in the group will face the fourth-placed team in one Semi-Final, while the second-placed team and the third-placed team will meet in the other Semi-Final.

On Sunday, the winners will play in the Final and the losing teams will meet in the 3rd Place Game.

The FIBA U18 Women's European Challenger in Andorra la Vella tips off on July 27.
