Still down at the break, they posted an excellent second half and had moved on the verge of triumph when they led 74-70. However, Schio punched back to tie the game in a dramatic finish before landing a knockout blow in the extra period to get the job done.
Rhyne Howard made a major statement on her debut in the competition by leading the Italians to victory with 23 points after dropping no fewer than five triples in the contest. Milica Jovanovic top scored for DVTK with 16 points.
Meanwhile, reigning champions Sopron Basket put their recent SuperCup Women disappointment behind them as they also denied a Regular Season newcomer a memorable first outing.
They were far too strong and deep for Kangoeroes Mechelen and amassed a comfortable 91-62 road win. Although they didn't have it all their own way and the Belgian hosts were dreaming of what might be after leading 23-22. But Sopron shifted through the gears either side of half-time to take full control.
Brittney Sykes held the hot hand as she made 10 of 13 from the floor for Sopron en-route to 24 points, also passing the rock 7 times. Another Sopron newbie Ezi Magbegor accumulated a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
