Gruda and Keys get it done for Schio in opener, Avenida off the mark against MBA
MUNICH (Germany) - Sandrine Gruda and Jasmine Keys went to work for Beretta Famila Schio to help them power past Basket Landes in their EuroLeague Women Regular Season opener on Thursday night.
French center Gruda completed a huge double-double in a one-sided 96-56 success, walking off the court after the buzzer having harvested 13 points and 19 rebounds.
Basket Landes were second best in every quarter of the contest and also undone by Jasmine Keys, who had the best game of her career in the competition, with 17 points and 10 boards, while Kitija Laksa continued her good form for Schio with 18 points.
Perufmerias Avenida Salamanca managed to hold off debutantes MBA Moscow, but only just as they scraped a 70-64 success at Pabellon Wurzburg.
The hosts had been ahead by as many as 15 points and dominated on the glass, but allowed the Russian visitors to narrow the gap to within a point inside the last two minutes of the contest. A jump-shot by Shante Evans then calmed the nerves and Silvia Dominuez wrapped things up from the free-throw line.
Avenida were also thankful to Leonor Rodriguez who had an all-action 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists, while Zhosselina Maiga responded with a smart 10 points and 11 boards in defeat.
