Achonwa claims Gameday 6 Top Performer award

MUNICH (Germany) - Natalie Achonwa has taken the Top Performer honor for EuroLeague Women Gameday 6 in what is likely to feel bitter-sweet for the Canadian.

MUNICH (Germany) - Natalie Achonwa has taken the Top Performer honor for EuroLeague Women Gameday 6 in what is likely to feel bitter-sweet for the Canadian.

Achonwa put in an epic performance to carry Beretta Famila Schio to a 77-74 victory against Spar Girona in their last game of the Regular Season, but they fell short of the Quarter-Finals by one basket as her last ditch shot in the paint just failed to drop.

It was something of a cruel and agonizing conclusion, since Achonwa had been a towering presence throughout the contest, finishing with 28 points from 71 percent shooting, plus 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists.

She is joined in the line-up by Alina Iagupova, who ensured that Fenerbahce Oznur Kablo finished top of Group B with a 67-65 win against LDLC ASVEL Feminin. The Ukrainian brought the noise with 18 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.

ZVVZ USK Praha had to stomach missing out on the Quarter-Finals as they lost to Fenerbahce and LDLC ASVEL Feminin, but at least finished their campaign on a high note. Led by Brionna Jones and Teja Oblak, they were able to collect a 80-67 victory against VBW Arka Gdynia.

Jones contributed a powerful double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds, while Slovenian national team leader Oblak added an efficient 16 points, along with 7 assists and 3 rebounds.

Finally, UMMC Ekaterinburg completed their unbeaten Regular Season by storming past TTT Riga 90-41 and Maria Vadeeva produced one of her best games so far. The forward weighed in with 20 points and 6 rebounds, shooting 60 percent from the field.
